Course Description :

 The course intends to investigate the process of learning and using a second language and to introduce the students with current second language acquisition theories as well. The course further aims to familiarize them to both practical and theoretical issues and researches in the field by considering both learner-internal and learner-external factors that contour the direction of L2 improvement and achievement.


Course Objectives

 

The objective of the course can be achieved through fruitful classroom discussions, extensive reading and active participation in classroom activities. These attempts will help to:

 

   Ø      Create environments for students to become acquainted with SLA 

           inquiries, both      theoretical and practical trends, and the popular

           pedagogical implications

 

 Ø      Inform students that L2 can be acquired in different techniques, any

    one of the technique would be useful for some specific learners base

    on their previous experiences, geographical location and socioeconomic

    conditions.

 

Ø  Discover how mastering a new or foreign language differs from

     learning a first language

 

Ø   Explain the possible conflicts of teaching leaning second or foreign

      languages exploring the reasons and causes of individual differences in

      learning and attaining native like competency and proficiency in the

      target language.


Evaluation:  (a) 20% attendance and class performance

                      (b) 30% midterm examination

                      (c) 50% final assignment.
